Years ago I was searching for self help information and this website is one of few that I went back to a lot. There are some free to read meditations, articles, music to listen to and also books and CDs that you can order online.

The Festival of Love is a guided meditation close to Easter and is said to increase inspiration and the connection to your soul and to our planet. I find it very pleasant because I feel connected to other people while meditating and since I have been using this my loneliness got less and less till I guess it was gone.

At first, practising for 10 minutes is enough, it is more important to create a routine and if you’d like to, keep a journal to write down your impressions, thoughts, feelings that may arise. During meditation something takes place that increases your Self, even if you are not aware of it. It is as if a bigger You comes into play and shows you the map of your life, where you are on your journey and which direction to follow.

Another nice thing is that you can meditate at home, at your own chosen time. You don’t have to go to some studio but of course, you can do it too. I usually meditate at home, only rarely while I travel, to pass the time. In the past I used to reserve 10 minutes during the lunch break for it.

In most cases the effects of meditating are positive. Sometimes you can also feel relentless, anxious or fearful about something you cannot explain, you have too many thoughts and cannot relax or in some rare cases, also show signs of mental illness. If that is the case please stop meditating and get help. It is no big deal: just as you cannot run a marathon if your body is injured, you cannot really meditate if something is wrong with your mind.

If you wanted to use meditation for relaxation, there are also other ways to achieve this: hobbies like painting, coloring, sewing, anything that involves handicraft, that you like doing. Learning hieroglyphs is great because when I do the “homework” and write/trace the symbols I get so concentrated on it and after a short while I am quite melted into it.

City walks can also be relaxing, I love to try and find streets that I don’t know yet, houses, trees and little parks that have something special.

If you have pets playing or just observing them while they play, looking at the clouds or at the stars.

One hobby that I used in anxiety situations in the past was to go inline skating every time the weather was nice. I learned it quite late in my life and the trick was that while skating I didn’t have much time to worry because I had to pay attention to the terrain, to the people that were walking in the park I was etc.

What else are you guys doing to relax? Is there a favorite meditation that you want to share?
